Welcome to Band class!
Hello, my name is Mrs. Hayama, and I am the band director at Val Vista, Oak Tree, and Playa del Rey Elementary. I am excited to have another wonderful year in the Gilbert Public Schools!

I'm sure your child is VERY excited to start learning a new instrument this year and eager to start learning songs to play! In my 5th grade class, we will start with the basics of instrument care, proper instrument posture and correct embouchure. We will then lean into our first notes and beginning songs your child will be excited to play. In 6th grade, the students will learn more new notes, rhythms, and start performing beginning concert band music.

MORE ABOUT MRS. HAYAMA
Mrs. Hayama was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and attended Miami University for her music education degree. Her primary instrument is the clarinet but enjoys playing the many other band instruments as well. Mrs. Hayama started working in the Gilbert Public Schools starting in 2018.

In the past, she has many experiences in the marching band, pit orchestra for musicals, concert band, jazz and Taiko drumming! She first wanted to be an art teacher as a child but later switched her passion to music. She still enjoys completing art projects at home as a hobby.
